Whoopi Goldberg
A little girl who grew up in a public housing project turned out to be one of the most celebrated personalities in Hollywood. Born Caryn Elaine Johnson, Whoopi Goldberg and her brother were raised by her mother, who was a teacher and nurse. Unfortunately, she dropped out of high school, so she wasn’t able to enter college. Later, with the help of Uta Hagen, an acting teacher also from New York City, and immediately booked her first onscreen project Citizen: I’m Not Losing My Mind, I’m Giving It Away. Since then, she has found success in her acting career and eventually became a multi-awarded talk show host.
Currently, Goldberg is just one of few stars who was able to score the four major awards in the entertainment industry: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony, also known as EGOT. The actress’ three marriages all ended with lawyers. She has a child, Alexandrea Martin, with her first husband, Alvin Martin.
